Breast Leaking During Pregnancy 2nd Trimester
Pregnancy comes with all kinds of weird symptoms.
You might not know this - but your breasts can leak way before your baby is even born… and it’s completely normal!
Your breasts begin producing colostrum (your body’s first milk) early in the 2nd trimester. You may begin to leak colostrum at some point during pregnancy…

It’s a GREAT idea to take a simple and affordable breastfeeding class. Breastfeeding is something you need to LEARN to do. The Ultimate Breastfeeding Class is on-demand and perfect for new moms.
Why are my breasts leaking during pregnancy?
During pregnancy, especially as you get closer to your due date, the hormone responsible for milk production (prolactin) increases and may cause your breasts to leak small amounts of colostrum. This is completely normal.
It’s more common to leak during late pregnancy, but it may even happen as early as the 2nd trimester.
It’s nothing to worry about. Just mention it to your healthcare provider at your next appointment.
To avoid any mortifying wet spots, you’ll need some breast pads. We always recommend THESE because they’re reusable, eco-friendly, and will save you a fortune compared to disposable ones.
What if I don’t leak any colostrum during pregnancy?
Some women leak quite a bit during pregnancy and some don’t leak at all. It’s all in the range of normal and whether you leak or not, it has nothing to do with your ability to make enough breast milk for your baby once they’re born.
